Match Preview: Chicago City at Milwaukee Torrent

Updated: Nov 4, 2021

Record: Chicago City (1-2-3, 5 pts., -6 GD) at Milwaukee Torrent (3-1-1, 10 pts., +4 GD)

Chicago City gets ready to face a Lake Michigan Conference rival for the second time this season as they head north to take on the Milwaukee Torrent.

It is an interesting matchup as both teams find themselves closer to opposite ends of the table. City played well during the week against the Dutch Lions but only came away with a point, bringing their tally to just five points in six matches, good for fifth in the conference.

On the other hand, the Torrent already have ten points and a game in hand on City, winning three of their five matches and only losing one.

That loss, however, came at the hands of City, a 2-1 victory that remains City’s only win so far this season. Even though City got the upper hand last time out, don’t think for a second Head Coach Nick Mulvaney will rest their laurels on that result.

“Torrent were missing some key players in the first game [we played against them],” Mulvaney said, “so we will expect another tough challenge from them.”

Torrent has been playing very well this season. They currently sit in third place on 10 points but are just one point behind Dutch Lions with two games in hand. Furthermore, a win versus City this weekend can bring them to within three points of conference-leading Red Stars Reserves.

“They were very good on the counter-attack last time out,” Mulvaney said, “so we will be aware of how we attack, ensuring we do not get broken down so easily in transition.”

City will be without captain Hope Baisley as she heads back to Fordham for soccer pre-season. Other captain Gabby Whittinghill came off the field early in the Dutch Lions fixture as she fell awkwardly on her back, but she should be ok for this one.

The key to pulling the double off Torrent? “We have to convert our chances. It’s as simple as that.”
